We welcome you to the CALAS 2008 Symposium!
SYMPOSIUM HIGHLIGHTS
Interactive Learning
There are 29 unique and educational workshops held on Saturday and Sunday. Take the time and opportunity to learn a new technique, to pursue a new avenue within the field of lab animal science, or just have some fun. Wrestle with a corn snake, gain insight into animal behavior at the Toronto Zoo or insights into your own personality. You can even find out what they do with all those tail snips! The possibilities are endless.
Scientific Program
This scientific program includes the most comprehensive information in one forum on current and emerging imaging technologies. Learn from the experts how these modalities are helping to generate significant data on the phenotypes of many animal species.
In addition to the imaging modality theme, there are many other topics being covered. Come and share ideas about how we can all help the environment by “going green” in our animal facilities. We will also take a look at the lighter side of new building construction woes. Everyone can benefit from revisiting our rodent diseases and what is really of significance to us now.
Vendor Exhibition
Take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the products and services offered by the members of our Canadian Allied Trades Association: visit the Exhibit Hall, talk with the vendors, attend the vendor technical presentations. You can also help us support the Robert Young Travel Fellowship by participating in this year’s new and exciting Pirate Scavenger Hunt. Win a great prize as you gather valuable information from the vendors.
Networking Opportunities
We know that we learn best by sharing our failures and successes with people. Take the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the country. Participate in the vendor/delegate challenge on Saturday. Socialize in the exhibit area at the opening reception on Sunday evening. Attend the CALAS annual general meeting breakfast Monday morning and find out what is going on in your organization. Cheer on the recipients of our service awards and speaker awards. Cheer even louder for the CORC-a-Cabana dancers who will entertain you with their talents at the “Dancing with the Stars” Gala on Tuesday evening.
